A structural engineer is working for you. When you hire them, they’re employed by you. You rent them for the time that they are there. They’re after the best thing for your home. Unfortunately, in our industry, there are guys that are out that are on commission only, and they’re out to sell something whether you need it or not. A structural engineer is concerned about the integrity of your home, and he doesn’t make any more money with or without peers being installed. Whereas with a contractor, a lot of them have a product just to sell.
